Locking a Valuation

Introduction

Once you have finalized a valuation, it is often reviewed internally, delivered to the client, or may be subject to audit. At this stage, you need confidence that it will remain unchanged, regardless of any retrospective changes in underlying market data or unintended edits during the review process.

Locking introduces explicit version control by freezing all valuation inputs and outputs at a specific point in time. This creates a defensible, audit-ready snapshot, protects against unintended changes, and provides a clear audit trail. It also ensures that, if you revisit the valuation in the future, the assumptions, inputs, calculations, and conclusions remain exactly as they were when it was delivered.

Valuation Status

Each valuation can be assigned one of three statuses:

  • Open – The valuation remains fully editable and continues to receive automatic market data updates.

  • In Review – The valuation enters a view-only mode and is locked for review. Users cannot make changes, and automatic market data updates are disabled to preserve the valuation during the review process.

  • Final – The valuation enters a view-only mode and is finalized. Users cannot make changes, and automatic market data updates remain disabled, ensuring the delivered valuation is preserved for future reference.

Note: Both In Review and Final place the valuation in a view-only state. Use In Review while the valuation is undergoing internal review, and Final once the valuation has been reviewed, completed and delivered.

Changing the Status

To change a valuation's status:

  1. Navigate to the Valuation Overview screen in a valuation.

  2. Click the current Status in the top-left corner (for example, Open).

  3. Select one of the available options:

    • Open

    • In Review

    • Final

Your changes are applied immediately.

To make further changes, change the status back to Open. The valuation becomes editable again and resumes receiving automatic market data updates.

What You Can Still Do in View-Only Mode

When a valuation is in In Review or Final status, it cannot be edited. However, you can still:

  • View all valuation assumptions, calculations, and results.

  • Generate Word and PowerPoint valuation reports.

  • Access the Executive Summary.

  • Share the valuation with other users.

  • Create a duplicate of the valuation to continue working on a new editable copy.
