Understanding How Industry Classifications Work

Industry classification, peers and transactions, relevant industry,

When creating a private company valuation, you can choose a specific industry classification by selecting from a range of options.

  1. During valuation setup, go to Step 4: Additional Information.

  2. Begin typing in the Industry selection field, and a list of relevant options will appear.

  3. Alternatively, click the Browse button next to the Industry field to explore more options.

Industry classifications are based on NACE and GICS standards, and Valutico allows you to choose from hundreds of different industries. This selection will be reflected on any exported valuation.

Please note that most of the external databases we use (such as those for market data) utilize simpler industry classifications. As a result, Valutico maps the NACE or GICS codes to our internal system.

When selecting peers, you may encounter a more general or higher-level classification due to the market data from our external sources.

If the pre-created list of peers does not align with your needs or your client's requirements, you may need to conduct additional research to find the most relevant peers or comparables for your valuation.
